She doesn't expect the intense feelings of desire and longing he creates with in her.

The Rogue Soul is an incredible story. It is sensual and intriguing. Kara Fey weaves a wonderful tale.

The Fate of Lachesis by Rena Marks

The life of a fate is not as magical as one would think. Lachesis is bored and depressed by the isolation and loneliness of life with her estranged sisters. She fantasizes of a perfect man and the god Ares unwittingly brings her one. Love and desire for this mortal just may be her undoing.

I loved The Fate Of Lachesis. It was beautifully written. Rena Marks is a talented writer creating a magical story. This romantic and sensual story will not fail to please.

The Awakening by Kally Jo Surbeck

Feeling the full weight of the ordeal of deciding how long a mortal lives, Attie struggles with finding peace. Her sisters think she is unfeeling but the truth is she feels too much and it had left her numb. While she searches for a way to accept her burden will she find love?

The Awakening is a refreshing read. Kally Jo Surbeck writes splendidly.

Chasing Luck By Melissa Schroeder

Lu Fortune is a new resident of the Texas town where Chase Franklin is sheriff. A god who now lives among mortals. When Hera tells him that the woman he has been fantasizing about is none other than Lucky the rebel Fate sister, he learns that betraying her my be the only way to gain the revenge he sought for centuries.

Who could be better as the hero than a handsome Texas sheriff? A Texas sheriff that is also a god. Chasing luck is a phenomenal story. Melissa Schroeder captures a readers attention effortlessly.

The Tempting Fate anthology is one of the best anthologies out there. The four stories flow almost flawlessly with each other. They compliment each other very well. Kara Fey, Rena Marks, Kally Jo Surbeck, Melissa Schroeder are very talented authors. I recommend this book for anyone seeking a bit of magic in their books.

After beginning to restore and update his holdings, Xander decides to visit his new neighbors, the Nydians. When he meets Belle, his preconceptions are challenged and the attraction is instant.

In lands torn apart by war and persecution as well as the depraved actions of a degenerate few, can Belle and Xander find a way to be together?

It actually took me several tries to really get into No Neutral Ground and that was partly because my own expectations of the book were incorrect. I began reading this story thinking it was a romance with some fantasy. Not at all. No Neutral Ground is a highly detailed fantasy with an elaborate world of religious and cultural conflict with a romance that blossoms despite it all. It’s probably one of the most complex worlds I’ve seen recently and that really kept me in the story.

I loved the fact that Xander and Belle were both equally strong and heroic. The true love between equals made me smile at the end. This book is not terribly spicy but the emotions of the characters permeates their encounters.

Give No Neutral Ground a chance, let yourself absorb the world and customs and don’t put it down too easily. You won’t be disappointed.

No Neutral Ground Book 1- Such As These Trilogy is a very complex tale that fully involves the reader. There is beauty, power, and corruption flowing freely within. Due to the complexity of the relationships and setting it took a while for me to get into the story, however, once I was in I couldn’t put the book down. The various lands, people, and motivations might prove initially confusing; however, as the reader is lured into Belle’s Machiavellian tactics, you begin to see who is on the side of good and evil. There are a multitude of characters within this story. Belle and Xander may be the central characters, but the secondary characters are relatively well developed and add a depth to the plot. Each has their own story and yet they combine for the greater fight against evil. The characters are easily the driving force of this story, yet Ms. Surbeck compliments her characters with vivid imagery and fitting dialogue. The fog, the scents, and the sounds of battle are almost palpable to the reader. Even the apprehension of the warriors as they prepare and Belle’s heart-stopping battle to get to Xander illustrate how well the author brings the reader into the story. The dialogue flows well and creates an almost otherworldly feel to the story. The ending builds to a wonderful climax and while it comes to a satisfactory pause, it promises the story is far from over. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

The best thing I have Learned - if you get a pretty bad cut and it doesn't seem to heal GO to the doctor don't put it off. Otherwise you'll be on antibiotics for who knows how long for an infection.

Today though, there is a little bit of a sale from me. I'll offer copies for 30% off cover price. You might be able to get this on amazon or something else, but... BOUND BY HOPE, if you buy from me, you would have to pay via paypal by Christmas morning or I can't get the order in at this rate. Normal cover is roughly $11 so I'll offer it for $8 a copy. 3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? It depends on how they are done. I prefer tasteful understated, personally.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Tipsy cake

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? When we would rive around town, just one night, driving, looking at the lights and the decorations. We went every year.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? I mostly watch it get done

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I like to look at it…when it’s all fresh white and fluffy. Nothing quite like a true white Christmas. I don’t like driving in it, shoveling it is hell, walking through it…well, that’s an art…don’t fall on your ass, nothing like hidden ice under a patch of snow. And, then January comes along, and the novelty wears off. Plus snow is fine, but COLD and snow is too much.

So many people when they are angry or hurt or alone, feel the need to bring other people down too, to hurt them...why? Why not try being the change in the environment. Relationships are one big headache: messy as hell and totally unnecessary. Especially in Vegas, baby, when you can hop into bed with the most gorgeous man at the bar and then hop right out again. No fuss, no muss, no injured feelings. And as her best friend, Gertie, knows very well, tangle-free flings are Bianca Kirkland's specialty.

Tall, blonde and busty, "B" is something of an unrepentant tease. Always has been, always will be, she acknowledges matter-of-factly while tugging her snug top just a little bit lower. Never look a gift stud in the mouth is pretty much Bianca's motto. All she has to do is show some cleavage, lick her lips and bam! she can have any man she wants; say, Mega Man at the end of the bar. Words are meaningless when it comes to sex.

To prove her point, she sets her sights on Colby James, chief of security for the hotel hosting the Star Trek convention Bianca and Gertie are all set to participate in. This is a working vacation, you understand; it's not like they're diehard Trekkies or anything like that. Besides, Bianca will be playing an expendable character, no one important, so she can justify staying up until the wee hours of the morning, working up a sweat with Mega Man.

Colby is painfully aware of Bianca's history, though. Hell, she broke his heart -- before he came to Vegas, before his body building days, before a lot of things. And she doesn't even recognize his name; not that he gives a bloody good damn. (The party in his pants certainly doesn't seem to mind). In fact, he'll take what he can get and be damned grateful for it, though Colby never thought he'd be thankful that Bianca's best friend, Gertie, likes seafood a little too much.

Oh yes, anything can and will happen in Vegas, especially during a Star Trek convention.

Trekkies and chick lit are definitely a giggle-worthy combination. But Kally Jo Surbeck's sci-fi loving novel, She Blinded Me With Science...Fiction, isn't just chick lit for one's inner Trekkie. Come on, admit it: we've all watched at least one episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, had a really good giggle over the cheesy dialogue, and secretly found Spock's Vulcan attributes as sexy as a Klingon in full battle regalia. No?

Regardless, Ms. Surbeck's novel will give readers a real tickle and a thrill -- as long as you can appreciate the absurd and find a little compassion in your heart for mixed-up, oversexed, twenty-something Bianca. It took this reviewer a little while, but I eventually warmed up to "B" and her various neuroses. Colby, on the other hand, is immediately likeable; imperfect but charming (when his insecurities aren't getting in the way). Of course, only so much progress can be made during a weekend-long working vacation, so exploring their sexual attraction is really where the plot is at; that and the Trekkie convention.

... She Blinded Me With Science...Fiction boldly goes where no chick lit novel has gone before. And ends, quite suitably enough, with a bang, courtesy of the flirty short story sequel, Friendly Fire.

TWO ROMANCE AUTHORS PLEDGE ROYALTIES TO USO PROGRAM

(Irvine, CA, September 29, 2006) Lorna K. Grant of Irvine, CA, and Kally Jo Surbeck of Lusk, WY, wanted to give something back to those in uniform. As a result, they have pledged their October, November and December royalties from their Vintage Romance Publishing novels to the USO program, United Through Reading. “I wanted to choose an organization that reached out to those serving our country, and could think of no organization more deserving than the USO,” Grant explained. Growing up with a father in the Air Force, Ms. Grant remembers her father being away for periods of time and knows what this generation of military children is going through with parents serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. When she got older, she heard the stories of how, when she was an infant and toddler, she refused to go to her father when he returned from year-long tours in Vietnam and Guam, as she didn’t recognize who he was. “I know it broke his heart and I’m glad the USO has a program that helps parents stay connected to their children while they’re away. It’s hard on everyone when parents are deployed and I’m glad today’s children have the help of the USO,” Grant commented.
The United Through Reading program helps unite deployed service men and women and their children with a little help from a video camera and a book. At participating USO Service Centers, the service members can videotape themselves reading a children’s book, and the resulting DVD and copy of the book are then sent to the child back home. The family is encouraged to photograph the child’s excitement of having the book read to them by the absent parent, which is then sent back to the deployed service member. “These men and women do so much for us,” Surbeck said. “They are our brothers, our sisters, our lovers, and friends. In this small way, I can help back.”

This past weekend

So this past weekend was VERY eventful. First was the Colorado Romance Writers www.coloradoromancewriters.org (my home chapter) it was our annual retreat. This year we had it at the El Colorado Lodge in Manitou Springs, Colorado. There was a fantastic turn out. I think I might get my hands on a picture or two. This infamous retreat is where the stripper Kally pictures were taken (be nice I was still in a swimsuit) two years ago. We have a lot of fun. It’s a great way to spur your creativity. If any of you out there write, I strongly think you should attend a retreat. There is nothing like spending a little time with people of like mind and goals. It’s inspiring. Saturday night a group of us were having a great dinner when we were surprised by the GM of a certain restaurant (in case he didn’t want us to say where) who came and sat with us for like 40 minutes, just chatting up a storm. He was a really nice man with some great stories. He also, this last year was a player in the WSP in Vegas. How cool is that?! Then on Sunday I did my little presentation on Humor for Pikes Peak Romance Writers www.pprw.org I hope it went well, but… I really enjoyed meeting with the ladies. We had a great time together and then afterward, we went out to supper at On The Border. The waiter was very … nice. We had a good time. Thanks to PPRW for hosting me!

As most of you know, I will be attending RT next year. We always have such a blast. So I have a four part news flash to share with you all regarding RT: www.rtconvention.com It will be held in Houston this year. April 25-29th.

1. I am a part of a panel group - the sexual chocolate ladies (Liz Andrews, Bev Havlir, Lena Matthews, Maggie Casper, Melissa Schroeder, Eve Vaughn and moi) We will have a open session on Friday called LICK THAT CRAVING. We are going to have a CHOCOLATE PARTY! There will be good chocolate, good company. We will be there to answer questions and meet one on one with the readers that just wanna come get a sugar fix! It will jazz you up Friday morning.

2. Mel and I will again host our private reader party. For those of you who went last year...it was fun right? Rib Rib. I make a killer marg. It seems like all sorts of things have been going wrong. I really thought that now that we were in a different month it would stop, but maybe it's like a fast moving train and a little hard to slow down.

Steve Irwin, more affectionately known as THE CROC HUNTER died .

Some of you might ask why I'm sad about this. My older sister got me hooked on The Crocodile Hunter. She said "Kally, I have this guy you've got to see. You're gonna love him." And I did. I was blown away by watching his gentle soul in action. The love he afforded all creatures. As a romance novelist, it was fascinating to me to hear of Steve and his wife's romance and courtship. I loved his corny sense of humor and the fact that he just went right on being Steveo regardless.

He was one more of my heroes who have fallen this year. I know at least I will miss him.

Actor Kenny Simpson thought for sure that Bianca was going to be his. At a con Trekkie convention in Vegas, he was set to make a connection but plans fell through, and Bianca went with someone else. Kenny agrees to go to a party with some of his fellow con participators and sees her. Throwing caution to the wind, he goes to her.

Ivy would recognize her lieutenant anywhere. Wanting to meet Kenny Simpson for the longest time, Ivy is happy to see him at a party where she is dealing blackjack. When her shift is over, Ivy proceeds to show Kenny just how much she wants him.

Friendly Fire by Kally Jo Surbeck made me giggle. I can see Kenny in my mind with his makeup on and acting studly. Then, I can picture his shyness without the makeup. I am sure these issues are dealt with all the time. Friendly Fire was entertaining, romantic, and made me smile.

Hey for those of you out there who are looking for a charitable contribution...I've got one. These fires are kicking the cumulative asses of everyone around where I live. Apparently the CIC and Veep are not paying much attention to the little Farmer Joe America. The fire fighters are busting trying to get all the flames under control. There are folks who have lost their homes, their fields, and more. If you are of the inclination...

A relief fund was set up to help both victims and those working to fight the fires. The fund will be available to help provide emergency financial relief to victims and volunteers. The Relay For Life was a wonderful experience. A while back, back in the college days, I had organized our team and had walked, but I hadn't done it in a while. It was so nice to see all of the folks that came out. I live in a rural community, so there were ranchers who had gotten up extra early to come walk before feeding, or who came in after. One of our team members, her family was havign a branding right after. The branding is an all day event up here. Lots of people. Lots of noise. Aka no sleep, but Cindy came and she and her grandson walked two hours. They were so pleasant and up. I really enjoyed seeing that. The bonding. The interaction. It is that faith, hope, and sense of community that will help beat cancer!

Relay For Life

Tomorrow night, I will be joining my sister and the folks from her work for Relay For Life. This event, for those of you who don't know, was designed to celebrate those who are surviving cancer and to raise money for cancer research. Dr. Gordy Klatt started this truly fantastic fundraising event. He believed cancer research needed additional funding, so he went to raising money by running marathons. I am quite happy to report - Yesterday afternoon I spoke with the corporate manager about "the bug problem". He was very attentive and really seemed to listen to my comments and complaints. The situation could have been resolved a bit better if they would have agreed to screen doors for the hotel, but I was told there are zoning issues. However, he would look into a more efficent means of keeping the bugs from the hotel!

Well, I am back...almost. I will be flying, hopefully, back home tomorrow. I say hopefully because on my way out I flew "the friendly skies" that weren't so friendly. First, I got trapped on the plane for a "small detail" that should"just take a minute", after about an hour they said that it was the air conditioning. Now, I'm not sure about this because FREEZING cold air pelted me, but I could be wrong. Then they told us "5 more minutes" - anyway, as I'm sure you are guessing -- almost 3 hours later, we took off. Then when we were getting ready to land the pilot announced that there was a problem with the flaps and they were going to try our approach again. Maybe I commented louder than I thought when I said - Couldn't you have waited until after we landed to tell us that? (am I wrong?) The dear man next to me reached over and said "Don't worry, we don't need the flaps to land." WTF? And more importantly...WTF? I'm pretty sure we do. Anyhow, we landed. I was fine. Then it was further customer service week of hell. While the promo company did "attempt" to right their error in getting me the product I ordered - they failed miserably. The order didn't show when they said it would. I told them when I would be traveling and they delivered it 2 days off, then had the nerve to be surprised when I didn't get the product. BIG BIG SIGH. RT was full of joys. I will talk more about that tomorrow or the next day. Right now, I'm too into the errors and noncaring of customer service. So I won't flame any hotel chain in particular but check out where we stayed at the Romantic Times convention www.rtconvention.com To sum up (for further ranting might just waste everyone's time) on the last night we were there (as honors members I add) there was a bug problem in our hotel room. That's right - BUG problem. I don't like bugs, but I'm not overly girly, throw a fit, anti bug, but DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNN. There was this bug, I kid you not, that was as big as my hand and the SOAB FLEW! Engineering came up and the man used a well known pesticide in the room. THEN THEY EXPECTED US TO SLEEP THERE! WTF and more importantly WTF! Finally, late into the night way early morning, we got a new room, but I Will never get over the crawling room! :-( I need sleep.

This has me an a bit of a foul mood. What is wrong with the world today besides apathy, arrogance, and ignorance? What happened to the customer is always right? If we can't have that, could we, the purchasing mass, at least GET WHAT WE ORDER!

Two unbelievable times (I know there are more that happened but these two, for me are in my top five unforgivables), I have been "shafted" for lack of a better term.

One. We took a girl friend out for Japanese. We were a party of 6. Large, yes. Overly so, no. I do not eat shellfish (allergies) nor pork (by choice). The waiter brought my order, incorrect 3 times to the table. Now I tried to be nice, but all I had ordered was Vegetable Friend Rice. He tells me "You forget what you order."

"WHAT?!"

Okay, so then. I had orders a great promotional product from a company a year ago. They still have all the specs of file. I ordered the exact same thing. It arrived today. NOT the same thing. I called them and was told "That's what you ordered."

"No. It's not." So I take a picture of the items side by side.

What is their next brilliant argument?

You guessed it.

"You have the product and you okayed the order."

This is what is wrong with the world....okay, part of what is wrong!

I think it's a great motto and something we all need to remember. No matter how hard we work and what we do, personally, we never make it alone.

Who Knew? TV

Okay. Who knew that this was possible? BWAHAHAHA I hear you all now...
I have been kind of quiet (pun intended for those of you who have been near me) of late because I've been really sick. I'm on the upswing now, which is good. RT is just around the corner. Anyway, so I was "resting" today and the two most fantastic all-day marathons were on TV.

I was already a big fan of GHOST HUNTERS - featuring TAPS. Two thumbs up from me. The personalities of the crew slays me and I always love seeing the either debunk or say "ahh I don't want to call it haunted but something is very definitely happening" HAHA

Ok - so that was on Sci Fi - A channel my BIL and I help finance (in how much we watch it - don't get excited). But on DISCOVERY there was a DEADLIEST CATCH marathon. Have any of you watched it? Who knew I'd get sucked into watching a show about crab fishing?

Anyone do anything good this weekend?

Two Thoughts

Wow. I have two things on the brain. I am hoping that if I push them off on you all, then I can get back to doing the things I'm supposed to be doing.

1) So I went and saw HARRY POTTER - GOBLET OF FIRE this weekend. I really enjoyed it, for many reasons. It tickled me to watch. It made me sad thinking about the misfortunes of youth, but offers hope of loyalty. There was a lot missing from the books (If you're readers), and some of the details I was looking for were missing, but if taking the movie for the movie's sake only - Thumbs up.

Yes. I know. You were ALL waiting for my approval, but, there you have it. Go watch the movie.

2) I have a long standing fascination with Dolph Lundgren. I guess, back in my own days of teenage hormones I fell in love with him from Rocky, and I just never lost my thing for him. As a matter of fact, tho his movies aren't necessarily run of the mill Hollywood, I have a huge collection of them, because he's in them and I like those kind of action movies. I suppose ranting is socially unacceptable when you are as infrequent of a blogger as myself, but...

How is it possible that the man in the grocery store, the man who pays for his purchase with coupons and pennies has the nerve to look at me with disgust for purchasing mega-power-Midol. I'm thinking he should be getting a clue!

Second thing I'm intrigued about. Had a conversation with a dear friend last night. He's a male I totally trust ( there better not be one comment about that), he and I were talking about the stereotyping and attitude toward dating older or younger persons. Somehow it's totally okay for an older man to date a WAY younger woman, but that is not true conversly. Can ANYONE tell me why? Technically, we've all learned that men reach their sexual peak earlier in life and women later, so it would stand to reason that a woman should for the sake of keeping everyone happy and lovingly involved date or marry a younger man.

Okay folks. I have reached San Antonio! WAHOO. And it's a scorcher. It's in the 100's - Quite a change stepping off that plane after going to St. Paul, MN. I was in a sweatshirt there. Thank Heavens Mel ( www.authormelissaschroerder.com ) has air conditioning.

This week we will be starting a bit of a diluge on the blog posts as we travel across the South doing some booksignings and promotion. Both Mel and I are really looking forward to this trip - unlimited Coke access (IE THE DRINK, get your mind out of the gutter) and warm weather. The Inhumanity of Humanity

Okay. Most of you, by this point now that I'm a geek and I generally embrace this side of my personality. I've never denied my sci-fi side. I've embraced it a little even with SHE BLINDED ME WITH SCIENCE FICTION. That said, last week was the SG1 (for those who don't watch tsk tsk tsk STARGATE 1) season finale. I was gone for Retreat, but my BIL (bless his heart) recorded it for me. I shall watch it soon. Tonight, however, was SGA (STARGATE ATLANTIS) and BATTLESTAR GALATICA's season finales.

Anxiously I awaited...

SGA (I promise no spoilers for my friends who get it a week later than those of us in the states)

I've really been getting worried about SGA. Gone was the banter adn the wit I'd so enjoyed. The characters were acting...well, out of character, and I was thinking this might be my last season watching. But these last two episodes of the season have redeemed the show for me. WELL DONE.

BSG

I have to take a deep breath on this one. BSG is the most depressingly brilliant show I've ever been addicted to. The writers/directors/actors are brilliant. They have managed to caputre every single emotion known and work it into their tightly woven storyline. I was old school BS (lol) and more than a little heistant when the series started, but the quickly won me over and I've been hooked. Literally. So tonight's finale--I don't want to ruin it or spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but it actually made me sick to my stomach and upset, because it's so dead-on, so accurate and so intense. It's well done, but it hurts my heart so badly to see the inhumanity of humanity. It hurts me worse to think that, no, to know that there are those actively desentitized to the brutality of life.

Needless to say, January cannot come quickly enough for next season.

This Weekend

I'm very excited about this weekend. The third weekend of September is always the CRW Annual Retreat. This year, the retreat has moved to a new location and we are all jazzed to try the new resort. However, we are mostly jazzed to have an informal gathering of writers who love, respect, and delve into the written word. We have classes, and just write sessions intersperced with some good old-fashioned brainstorming and catching up with friends.
